 One thing Bluefur had quickly learned about kittens: they don’t have volume control. The queen groaned, ears pinned back against her head as the shrill, excited squeals of her litter invaded her dreams. Stonekit shouted, and a small, fluffy body collided with her muzzle. Suddenly the nursery was very quiet. Bluefur slit her eyes open, glaring at her children with possibly the most frightening expression she was capable of. Stonekit rolled away, smiling sheepishly before quickly pushing the blame off on his sister. “Mosskit pushed me!” He mewed, turning the attention to his smaller sister.  Bluefur yawned anxiously, glancing from the three sleeping kits at her belly to the snowy ground outside the nursery. Swiftbreeze was asleep on the other side of the den, curled around her own litter of three. If she left now, no one would know. She stood, careful not to wake her kits, and tucked the moss of her nest around them before slipping out into the snow. The snow was thick, and still falling; she practically had to wade through the clearing where it was deepest, but once out of camp the cover of the trees ease the way. Bluefur steeled herself and headed for the river. *** Oakclaw was waiting for her. Her heart beat fast at the
